LEAVING

Copyright 1999.

THE BOXES ARE PACKED THE CUPBOARDS STRIPPED BARE

THOSE FADED WALL PATCHES? OH PAINTINGS HUNG THERE

YES THIS OLD HOUSE WAS A HOME FOR MANY A YEAR

BUT NOW IT STANDS SILENT NO LAUGHTER OR CHEER

THE TILES IN THE WASHROOM WE SAID WE WOULD CHANGE

THE VIEW FROM THE BEDROOM WE ONCE THOUGHT UNIQUE

NOW LOOKS BARREN AND DISMAL AND REALLY QUITE BLEAK

THESE WALLS HELD A MAGIC THAT WAS SECOND TO NONE

THERE WAS MUSIC AND LAUGHTER AND SO MUCH FUN

THE SMELL OF HOME BAKING ONCE FILLED EVERY ROOM

NOW ALL IS REPLACED WITH SADNESS AND GLOOM

A HOME IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT, WE MADE OURS SUPREME

WE HAD LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING WE WERE BUILDING A DREAM

UP IN THE MORNING AND WHILE YOU READ THE POST

I WOULD PREPARE BREAKFAST OF FRESH EGGS AND TOAST

WE'D CHAT FOR A WHILE THEN YOU WOULD KISS ME GOODBYE

I ALWAYS SAID TAKE CARE, BECAUSE I LOVED YOU THAT'S WHY

I WOULD SPEND THE WHOLE DAY FINDING SOMETHING TO DO

I WOULD CLEAN BAKE AND DUST, YES I DID IT ALL FOR YOU

I WOULD PREPARE THE TABLE AND DIM THE LIGHT

I WANTED IT PERFECT WHEN YOU CAME HOME AT NIGHT

I SO LOVED THIS HOUSE BUT I LOVED YOU MUCH MORE

THIS HOUSE WAS NOT A HOME, UNTIL YOU WALKED IN THE DOOR

YOU CALLED THIS HOUSE YOUR CASTLE AND WHEN I ASKED WHY

MY QUEEN LIVES HERE YOU SAID, AND I WILL LOVE HER TILL I DIE

BUT ONE DAY YOU LEFT YOUR CASTLE NEVER TO RETURN AGAIN

YOUR QUEENS HEART WAS BROKEN, HER BODY RACKET WITH PAIN

THIS HOUSE WAS ONCE A CASTLE NOW IT DOESN'T MEAN A THING

BECAUSE THE CASTLE NOW IS MORNING THE LOSS OF ITS KING

SADLY THE QUEEN IS LEAVING SHE HAS GIVEN UP HER THRONE

IN HER HEART HER KING STILL REIGNS AS SHE WALKS AWAY ALONE.

I DREAMT OF YOU AGAIN LAST NIGHT

I SAW YOUR FACE IN THIS BRIGHT LIGHT

YOU SMILED AT ME I FELT YOUR GLOW

WAS IT A DREAM? I JUST DON'T KNOW

I BEGGED YOU PLEASE DON'T LEAVE AGAIN

MY HEART COULD NOT WITHSTAND THE PAIN

YOU SMILED ONCE MORE AND TOUCHED MY CHEEK

PLEASE TALK TO ME I CRIED, PLEASE SPEAK

I HAVE WORK TO DO YOU SAID

THAT'S WHY THEY CALLED ME ON AHEAD

TO BUILD A HOME ABOVE FOR YOU

WHERE ANGELES DANCE IN MORNING DEW

I WILL BUILD THE FINEST HOME YOU SAID

WITH TWINKLING STARS ABOVE YOUR HEAD

PILLOWS MADE OF CLOUDS SO WHITE

TO LAY YOUR PRECIOUS HEAD AT NIGHT

BUT TAKE ME WITH YOU NOW I CRIED

MY BROKEN HEART HAS ALL BUT DIED

WITHOUT YOU I CANNOT LIVE ANYMORE

YOU WERE WHAT I WAS LIVING FOR

I LEFT BEHIND MY FAMILY

PLEASE TAKE MY PLACE, BE THERE FOR ME

I WILL KEEP WATCHING OVER YOU

UNTIL YOUR TIME ON EARTH IS THROUGH

AND THEN YOU BEGAN TO FADE AWAY

OH LORD I BEGGED PLEASE LET HIM STAY

BUT MY PLEASE WERE ALL IN VANE

A KISS, AND YOU WERE GONE AGAIN

I OPENED MY EYES, TEARS STUNG MY FACE

I SEARCHED FOR YOU, THERE WAS NOT A TRACE

YOU WERE NOT A DREAM, YOU WERE REAL

FOR THE KISS THAT YOU GAVE ME I STILL COULD FEEL
