WHATEVER HAS HAPPENED TO THIS WORLD OF OURS
SO MANY A REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE
WHERE IS THE GENT WHO ONCE TIPPED HIS HAT
OR THE CHILD WHO SAID PLEASE MAY I HELP YOU WITH THAT

WHERE IS THE YOUNG MAN WHO GRACIOUSLY GAVE UP HIS SEAT
OR THE PEOPLE WHO SMILED AS YOU PASSED ON THE STREET
NOW FACES ARE SAD, THEY NEVER SMILE AS BEFORE
OLD PEOPLE NOW PRISONERS BEHIND A LOCKED DOOR

YOU DON'T STROLL THROUGH THE WOODS FOR FEAR OF ATTACKS
AND YOUTHS ROAM THE STREETS NOT IN GROUPS NOW BUT PACKS
YOU NEVER CARRY A PURSE WHY THAT'S EASY TO SNATCH
AND SEVERAL LARGE BOLTS NOW REPLACE THE DOOR LATCH

YOU ARE NOT SAFE ON THE BUS WELL AT LEAST NOT AT NIGHT
YOU ARE SURE TO WITNESS SOME TERRIBLE FIGHT
THERE IS DIRT AND GRAFFITI ALL OVER THE SEAT
AND MARKS WHERE SOMEONE HAVE WIPED THERE FEET

YOU STAY HOME AT NIGHT AND YOU SWITCH ON TV
THERE IS VIOLENCE AND CRIME LITTLE ELSE TO SEE
SO YOU GO TO BED YOU SIMPLY CANT WIN
YOU DON'T REALLY REST SOMEONE MAY BREAK IN

YOU MAKE A FRESH CUP OF TEA, IT COULD BE A LONG NIGHT
YOU SIT IN THE DARK AND YOU SHIVER WITH FRIGHT
WRAPPED UP IN A BLANKET TO KEEP IN THE HEAT
THE ELECTRICITY'S TOO DEAR THE BILLS YOU CANT MEET

AN OLD AGED PENSIONER I AM YOU SEE
LIFE IS NOT EASY FOR THE LIKES OF ME
OH I HAVE A CHOICE AND IT WAS GIVEN QUITE FREE
AN OLD PEOPLES HOME OR MY DIGNITY
