THE GRASS IN THE PARK SEEMS LESS GREENER NOW
FLOWERS IN THE BORDERS LESS ATTRACTIVE SOMEHOW
I HEAR CHILDREN'S LAUGHTER, I SEE THEM PLAY
MUFFLED AND DISTANT. IT ALL SEEMS FAR AWAY.

AS IF IN SLOW MOTION THE PARK SPINS AROUND
ALL SEEMS DISTORTED, I FEEL MY HEART POUND
THE SUN BEHIND TREES CAST SHADOWS SO GREY
PERHAPS IT WAS FOOLISH TO COME HERE TODAY

IT WAS HERE YOU AND I STROLLED HAND IN HAND
WE SHELTERED FROM RAIN IN THAT OLD BANDSTAND AND
THAT FOUNTAIN OVER THERE WITH THE LIONS HEAD
THE WATER FOR DRINKING BUT YOU DRENCHED ME INSTEAD

REMEMBER YOU PROPOSED BY THAT OLD IRON GATE
THE ONE OVER THERE WITH THE RUSTY NAME PLATE
THAT OLD LADY CAUGHT US KISSING AS SHE PASSED BY
OH, I'VE BEEN THERE TOO SHE LAUGHED WINKING HER EYE

IT WAS UNDER THAT OAK TREE WE PICNICKED REMEMBER ?
WE GOT SOME STRANGE LOOKS, MIND IT WAS IN DECEMBER
BUT WE JUST DIDN'T CARE NOT YOU AND I
WE WERE YOUNG AND IN LOVE NOT A CLOUD IN THE SKY

OH THOSE TIMES WERE SO GOOD AND I MISS YOU SO
ALL THOSE WONDERFUL YEARS WHERE DID THEY GO
HEY! LOOK OVER THERE THAT COUPLE DO YOU SEE ?
WHY! THEY REMIND ME A LOT OF YOU AND ME

LOOK THEY ARE HOLDING HANDS JUST LIKE WE USED TO DO
AND YOU KNOW, HE DOES LOOK AN AWFUL LOT LIKE YOU
AND THAT GIRL SO PRETTY WITH HER LONG GOLDEN HAIR
THEY MAKE SUCH A WONDERFUL HANDSOME PAIR.

THEY ARE BY OUR FOUNTAIN, YES HE IS JUST LIKE YOU
HE HAS DRENCHED THE POOR GIRL JUST AS YOU USED TO DO
NOW THEY ARE STROLLING AGAIN AND HE IS HOLDING HER HAND
WAIT A MINUTE THEY'VE STOPPED, AT OUR OLD BANDSTAND

THEY ARE LAUGHING AND DANCING WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SIGHT
EVERYTHING IN THEIR WORLD IS ROSY AND BRIGHT
JUST AS IN OURS WHEN YOU WERE STILL HERE
EXCUSE ME... WOULD YOU CARE TO DANCE MY DEAR ?

WE ARE LAUGHING AND DANCING YOU ARE HOLDING ME TIGHT
TWO SILHOUETTES SWAY IN THE GLORIOUS SUNLIGHT
CHILDREN'S LAUGHTER RINGS OUT LOUD AND SWEET
THE GREENEST GRASS CARPET UNDER OUR FEET

HE BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS THEIR SCENT FILLS THE AIR
I MUST HAVE BEEN BLIND THEY WERE ALWAYS THERE
BUT I WAS SEARCHING FOR YOU NOTHING ELSE COULD I SEE
NOW I KNOW WHERE TO LOOK, I KNOW WHERE YOU'LL BE

YOU'LL BE HERE IN THE PARK WHERE THE SHADOWS RUN FREE
HERE IN THE PARK YOU'LL BE WAITING FOR ME
WHEN I NEED YOU TO HOLD ME AND KISS ME AGAIN
ILL COME BACK TO THE PARK AND WHISPER YOUR NAME

I PASSED THE YOUNG COUPLE AS I LEFT THAT DAY
THEY WERE KISSING AND CUDDLING WHEN I LOOKED THEIR WAY
THE YOUNG GIRL ALL EMBARRASSED, HER CHEEKS TURNING PINK
OH, I'VE BEEN THERE TOO I SAID AS I GAVE HER A WINK.
